Fat Facts for a Fit Yummy Mummy

What you need to know about Fat if you want to get Fit

#1 Fact: Fat does not Make you Fat

The one and only reason why you gain weight and have stubborn fat is due to the fact that you consume more calories than your body can burn off. There is not one kind of food that is the root of the problem. Same goes for finding a solution, eliminating one type of food will not deliver the fat loss you desire.

The key lies in boosting your metabolism through short burst resistance training, intervals and a supportive nutrition plan. Fat is an essential part of your supportive nutrition plan.

#2 Fact: Your body needs fat to function properly

Besides being your body's largest energy source, fat is a nutrient used in the production of cell membranes, as well as in several hormone-like compounds that help regulate blood pressure, heart rate, blood vessel constriction, blood clotting and the nervous system. Cut out the fat and you compromise your body's ability to function.

Without dietary fat your body would not be able to absorb fat-soluble vitamins -- vitamins A, D, E and K -- from food.

Fat also helps maintain healthy hair and skin, protects vital organs, keeps your body insulated, and provides a sense of fullness after meals (satiety).

#3 Fact:We eat too much of the Bad Fat and not enough of the Good Fat

Now that you are excited about fat, you want to be sure you are getting enough of the right kind and avoid the unhealthy fats. When choosing fats, your best options are monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids.

Monounsaturated Fats are found in extra virgin olive oil, natural peanut butters, avocados and Nuts (almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts...).

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in mainly cold-water fish - like salmon - contains (DHA and EPA). These are amazingly healthy fats - can reverse signs of brain aging, prevent ADHA, protects heart, decrease inflammation, relieve PMS symptoms, minimize menopausal symptoms and protect against osteoporosis.

Don't like fish or fish oils?

One of the 3 supplements I recommend all women take is an Omega-3 supplement. If you would like more info on this, visit Prograde for testimonials and more information about EFA Icon and other high quality supplements. I am a HUGE believer in EFA Icon, it not only assisted in changing my body, but the elimination of mood swings along with an overall sense of well being have improved all areas of my life.

Now you know What to Eat - you need to know what to limit and avoid.
Saturated Fats are to be eaten in moderation. Found in animal products, they do provide some benefits to our body for in moderation they our enhance immune system and allow calcium to be absorbed.

Stay away from TRANS Fats - which happen to be hidden in many of our processed and convenience foods (40% of the items in your grocery store contain it) and fast foods.

Trans Fat is a double whammy for it can raise LDL (bad cholesterol) and at the same time lower HDL (good cholesterol)....leading to heart disease, raises your Triglycerides - leads to hardening of arteries...Increases INFLAMMATION by damaging Cells

And many OTHER adverse effects in health areas such as cancer, diabetes, immunity, reproduction and lactation, and obesity.

You can find Trans Fat hidden in your "favorite foods" by looking in the ingredients list for the words:
HYDROGENTATED oils
Or
PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED oils

Now you know Fat is not the enemy when it comes to fat loss.

Good FATs are necessary for ....
- energy
- production of hormones
- healthy skin and hair
- assist in absorption of Fat Soluble vitamins
- reduction of PMS and Menopausal symptoms
