Banish Your Muffin Top

4 weeks into the Fit Yummy Mummy Lifestyle and Carrie has lost her muffin top!

"Wow! I know I said I believed in the program before but now I REALLY believe. I need a choir robe and an organ accompaniment here.

Even with overeating on my birthday and too much valentines candy I'm still seeing results.

While the physical changes are enough to make me dance around naked my energy level is through the roof and to me that's more of a pay off than anything.

This morning I had to resort to the last pair of clean jeans hanging in my closet that I just haven't worn for a long time now because of they give me the dreaded "muffin top".

Since I made a solemn vow to myself that I would NEVER wear that something that did that to my body in public or even at home I kicked around the thought of putting my jammies back on, but since I had to go grocery this afternoon I decided to just suck it in and wear a big shirt to cover the offending fat rolls.

Then the magic happened.

I put on the pants and pulled them up with my back facing the mirror so I wouldn't have to see all that ugly. But low and behold ladies.....

NO MUFFIN TOP!

Can you believe it? I can!

I believed and it delivered.












Some days I had to sneak in a workout right before dinner because I know I won't be able to do it after dinner.

Some days I had to be super careful with my 20 lb kettle ball because my 2 year old is playing with his choo-choo at my feet.

Some days I've had to give up any free time I might have had to get my workout in.

Some days it drains me to know that I have no choice but to workout the rest of my life, but not today.

Today I ADORE this program.
Today I am already looking forward to tomorrow's workout.

Today I am a Happy Fit Yummy Mummy with no muffin top in a size 9 juniors jeans!!!!!!

Today I realize how important my mental well being is and to have that I have to have this.

Today I think I banished my workout resentment forever.

Less Cardio: More Fat Loss

"When I started FYM I had to make the decision to quit running every morning.

This was really hard because I was in a running group and had such a close social network in that group. So along with running and getting my exercise I was getting in my social hour too.

A sidenote, we all complained that no matter how much we ran none of us was losing any weight.(Hmmmm, I thought to myself, there has to be a better way).

Along came Holly and Fit Yummy Mummy!!

Anyway, once I stopped running long distances everyday and started the Fit Yummy Mummy way of life, I "magically" started dropping weight (6 lbs. so far), and all my running friends are asking me, "wow you look great what have you been doing?"

Well I tell them and then they look at me like I am crazy.

They all say I could never give up running.

Well, I haven't given up running. I do my running differently now. Ever heard of wind sprints or suicides (Intervals)? Those short bursts of running still give me that runner's high but I don't have to run for an hour and it is actually making me lose fat!!

Still none of my friends will jump on the bandwagon with me. Oh well, MY loss! Ha Ha!

The high intensity short burst way of exercising really is enough to give you those endorphins you crave. Plus, it makes you lose fat. What is better than that?

I just ordered this swimsuit for my Hawaii trip so I am posting the picture of the model in it.











So I put on my new swimsuit. I know I don't look as good as the model does in it, but I definitely look better than I would have a couple of months ago. Thanks Holly!!"

I Broke Through My Plateau!

"Holly -
I just wanted to tell you that you made my day today! This morning I broke my 130 barrier on the scale - something I had not accomplished on any other post-baby diet I had tried.

And I have not killed myself running 10 miles a day, or starving myself, or denying myself in anyway (because I don't miss the things I have cut out).

I have not broken this 130 barrier for 6 years - since my 3rd child was born. I had another child since then (3.5years ago) and got back down to the 135 range - but never could break that plateau, not matter what I did - running, walking, tae bo, tae kwon do, adkins, south beach, etc.

I could never embrace a whole lifestyle transformation until now. And I know this is totally something I can stick to for life - you have made it so easy for everyone to do, by just following your Fit Yummy Mummy principles.

I am beginning to notice a real difference overall in the way I look in the mirror.

My side profile is shaping up, and there is less of me there - I especially see it in the tummy. Though I am a looooong way from washboard abs, there is definitely less flabbiness.

There is under-the-surface progress!! My shape is changing - I'm "lighter." And it is a wonderful thing!!

I feel healthy and empowered - which does not usually happen when you "diet" - at least in my experience (usually the feelings are more like hungry, impatient, weak and frustrated!!).

You have given us a tremendous gift - and I know you must hear that alot, but maybe I am first today to tell you that :)!!

My Husband is Noticing My Results!

"Just yesterday my husband commented on how my arms are looking more toned (in other words..."you're not so flabby, honey..lol") and my tummy and butt are starting to tighten more!

Talk about making my day ;0)

As most of you know...I have been dealing with a couple of sickies at home (myself included) and have been unable to do much :( But I have learned that every little bit helps. And the more you force yourself to do that last interval or that last set the easier it will be to do...and the less you will dread doing it! (Still paying attention to any warnings your body may give you though!) I am starting to really enjoy the time I get to spend working out ;0)

Even though I was set back a few days with being sick, I still feel it is important to go over what Fit Yummy Mummy has done and is doing for me in just the short time I have been implementing it.

First and foremost would be how I feel...

Despite being sick for a few days, I have been feeling a lot more energetic, less moody, and more "able"...that is, able to face the world each day and strive to reach my goals.

I used to feel defeated from the moment I got out of bed because I was on so little sleep... and spent so much time caring for my newborn and my husband that I felt like I would never be able to fit in anything for myself.

This is where my mindset and outlook on "life" was skewed.

As Holly said, who is going to look out for your needs if you don't?

What a way to live...waking up each day knowing that you are not going to take care of yourself or do anything for yourself! Again, my thinking was skewed.

The more I care for myself the more able I am to care for others.

As a result of eating more supportively and taking advice from my lovely ClubFYM friends...I have been getting more sleep!!! I thought this was a lost cause...

But anything can happen when you actually take action towards it-THANK YOU to all that helped me in this quest!!!

As far as how my body is changing in appearance...I am going to take the advice of Holly and others and not weigh or measure just yet. But, I think my husband's comments are testimony enough to the fact that things ARE changing...and I will reach my goal!!!"

Will Fit Yummy Mummy Work for Me?

"Fit Yummy Mummy has become my lifestyle. Its a part of me and who I am now. I don't even have to think about what I am doing anymore, it's become second nature.

I love having a plan at meal times. I love having a plan going to the grocery store. I even like going to the grocery store now. Holly if you figure out a way for me to "love" doing laundry let me know! ;) OKay doing the laundry isnt so bad, its the folding and putting away part that I do not enjoy.

If there is anyone out there on the fence about FYM I am here to tell you, JUMP OVER!!!

You will never regret it.

I have been yo-yo dieting most of my life, and I have never found a lifestyle anywhere that lived up to what it promised. With a few small changes you can completely turn your body, health and life around. Isn't it wonderful to know that you can take control and change it all around?!

The concept is a simple one. By choosing better foods, eating every 3-4 hours, and a better way to workout, you can feel so uplifted and amazing.

I love that I don't spend hours working out, 90m mins a week thats it!

I used to be a cardio queen and now that I work out like this I get upset when I think about all the wasted time that I spent at the gym, or in my house working out. Holly has found the secret and has shared it with all of us.

You are a busy mom too we have other things we need to do! You can take your workouts anywhere you go, that is what I love about it....NO EXCUSES!!!

I am 11 weeks into this and I cant believe how wonderful this is. It is unlike anything I have ever done in the past. Once you get your nutrition in place and begin your workouts you will feel amazed and energized. After about 3-4 weeks the magic starts happening!

This is what I call my "Sweet Spot" When you hit your "Sweet Spot" you will know it. It is the best feeling in the world!!! Not only am I getting healthy, but I am becoming a better me!

I used to be a mom who had lost "me" along the way.

I was so busy taking care of everyone else's wants and needs. Sure, I was happy to do it! I have been blessed with two of the greatest jobs, I am Autumn and Eric's Mommy and I am Jeff's wife! But, I had come to realize, if I don't take care of me, who is going to take care of them?

Fit Yummy Mummy helped me to become a confident person who likes herself again, a better mom who has energy to play with her kids, and a supportive fun loving wife to Jeff! Now I wake up so excited and happy everyday. My husband is amazed how happy and outgoing I have become. A few months ago I was so down and so unhappy. Not anymore!

Then the snowball effect happens, by becoming a better person, wife, mom, and friend, you want to share Fit Yummy Mummy with every single woman that you know. You want them to feel this amazing and good about themselves.

How many other programs out there can do that for you?

I don't know of a single one. I know if I were to have a down day I will have 100 plus women running to lift me up. They would be there to give me the love and support to get through my rough time.

How to Workout When You are Sick

Not Feeling So Great?

Not feeling so good today, but worried about breaking the progress you have made?

I fell off the radar there for a bit as I had to overcome a stomach bug of my own. I know a few of you have also shared that you too have battled with a sickness here and there and now wonder....


"What can I do to make up for lost time?"
"What the best workout strategy to help me get back on track?"

First know that it is fine to take time off from your workout plan when you are ill.

REST is the #1 prescription when it comes to recovering from whatever sickness you may be fighting. Nutrition is #2 and I'll cover that one in a moment.

If you have a bout with that notorious bug that seems to make its way around quite quickly, do not fall prey to the pressure to try to workout during this time or make up for time that is lost because of it. Taking this approach will only cause more harm than good.

Just like it is not one meal or one missed workout that causes the damage, a couple days of being ill will not cause you to go back to square one.

First I'll state the obvious.
Do Not Workout If:
* You have a fever
* You feel nauseous
* You are highly contagious

Your body needs the rest.
Trying to workout may only cause you feel worse. Your immune system is working overtime trying to get you better - it will be counterproductive to put your immune system under stress from exercise and may prolong your illness.

It is a myth that you can "sweat out the germs and toxins". Low levels of exercise increase endorphins and benefit your body, but an intense workout that creates high levels of endorphins can wear down your immune system.

If you just have a minor cold - it is okay to go through your workout, at a less intense pace. Doing so will help you to feel better and allow you to breath easier for it will help to open up your nasal passages.

How to Get back on Track:

Wait at least one to two days after you are over the worst of it.

1. Engage in a light workout.
The purpose here is to EASE back in to your normal workouts. Do not expect to go all out at this point. I would suggest choosing to start off with a less intense version of your intervals or a modified resistance training workout. If either of these options includes jumping, you may wish to find a substitute.

Options may look like:

Intervals - instead of a normal 1 min. low/1 min. high, choose to perform 2 minutes low, 1 minute high but all variables are less intense than your regular interval session. This may extend your time spent and that is okay. No need to go past 20 minutes....remember the goal is to EASE back into your routine.

Resistance Training Workout
- you have a couple options here. Depending on your fitness level and how you are feeling, you may choose to complete a beginner level, body weight based workout.

You may choose to go through the workout once. So instead of completing 3 super sets, you just complete one set of each exercise taking sufficient time between each for rest as needed.

You may choose to pick 2-4 exercises within your workout and complete 2-3 super sets.

Afterwards you can judge how you are feeling to see if you are up to a light interval session.

2. Make sure you have something to eat.
This needs to be stated, for when we are sick, our appetite diminishes, but our body needs the fuel, not just to go through a light workout, but to also help your body to recover from being ill. Make sure you eat something light at least an hour before hand.

3. Stay Hydrated: Before, during and after.
This VERY important!
Fevers burn up body fluids and you lose extra water and fluids from your skin, lungs and digestive tract if it is infected with intestinal germs. This concern is doubled if you have been unable to keep anything down.

You will lose even more body fluids during a workout when you sweat. So when you are recovering from an illness and you begin to workout again, it is common for your thirst reflex goes on the blink, and very easy to forget to drink.

4. Stop if you feel light headed - do not attempt to to keep going.

5. Take some extra time to cool down.
At the end of your workout, factor in some time to take a leisurely walk or work in some light stretching.

Bottom line - Listen to your body!

As far as nutrition goes.....while there is not a lot we can do in terms of exercise while we are sick, we have 100% control over the foods we choose to eat.

This is the perfect time to fill your body with good soups and juices filled with only natural goodness to help accelerate your recovery.

What about my results?
Your progress will not be hindered by a few days off from your regularly challenging workouts and your consistent nutrition plan. Getting sick is a VERY normal set back and you WILL bounce back easily if you choose to follow these guidelines.

Give it a couple days and once you get your energy and strength back you'll feel great and want to exercise again. Many of us find a whole new drive after taking this time to recover. Just be sure you give yourself the time and the nutrients to recover and you will be back on track before you know it!

So here are my GET WELL SOON wishes if you are still feeling like crap. Know that it will soon pass and you will not have lost any of the progress you have made - instead you will come back stronger and more eager than ever to move ahead!!

Sugar: Why is it so Addictive?

Fighting Cravings for Sweets

















"So I've always wondered why I crave sugar so much especially after I eat a meal. I have not gone one day without finding something with sugar in it to satisfy my urge. Some days I get a little carried away.

Why does this happen?

I've tried to eat grapes or something sweet when I get that urge however it doesn't cut it so then I end up eating some candy canes (which I am totally addicted to) or something sweet. I know I should clean my house out of all of the bad food and I have a whole lot but my kids still like to have their snacks."

Amy, you are not alone. Many women encounter this all too familiar battle day in and day out.

Sweet cravings come about for a number of reasons. In order to defeat these cravings, it is important to understand why they occur.

1. Part of your cravings exist due to habit. You must have satisfied this craving in the past - following a meal with something sweet. Then suddenly it becomes a part of your mindset. After every meal must come dessert. The good news is ALL Habits are learned, so this habit cam be unlearned as the result of practice and repetition.

2. Your cravings will continue to exist if you eat simple, refined carbohydrates or high sugar foods. The day you cut out the sweets is the day you take control and stop the cravings. Cravings exist because we feed them and allow them to exist. Yes, it is an addiction, but one we choose to have.

Take a peek at what is happening inside your body when you do make this choice. My hopes are that you will think twice before giving in.

Eating simple carbohydrates causes a spike in your blood sugar for these foods are quickly absorbed into the blood stream. This in turn gives you the temporary sugar high - it feels good....however, our body does not like this imbalance and a series of hormonal responses take place.

Your body produces an increased amount of the Insulin - a storage hormone. In order to facilitate this rush of insulin, glucagon - a release hormone - is diminished.

What does this hormone game mean to you? Each time you consume simple sugars and refined carbohydrates, you are doing nothing more than locking in fat.

Even worse? This cycle will continue for once your blood sugar levels hit bottom. You will Crash due to the excess insulin. Your body reacts once again for at this point your energy level bottoms out, you have trouble thinking clearly and you end up with cravings. You will inevitably crave sweets as these foods will raise blood sugar the quickest, getting you out of your slump.

The blood sugar High/Low cycle repeats - again and again and again...

Think of a roller coaster. This is what is happening inside your body every time you eat sweets.

The only way to stop the cravings.....is to get off the ride.

Strategies to Eliminate your Sweet Tooth

1. Clean out the Kitchen.
Keeping sweets in the house will actually sabotaging your chances to be successful. Replace the junk with supportive options. For example, fresh fruits and vegetable, nuts, string cheese, high fiber crackers, etc.

2. Keep a Food Log
Are you eating every 3 to 4 hours? Skipping meals will cause your blood sugar levels to drop. Be sure each meal and snack includes the right balance of protein, fats and carbohydrates. Sometimes a craving occurs due to a lack of protein and/or fats in your meal and snacks. Simply eating an apple is not enough. Pair your apple with a handful of nuts or some diced cheese cubes.

3. Wait it Out
Did you know a craving lasts for about 15 minutes - then it goes away. Make a list of things you can do to distract you for 15 minutes. When a craving hits....grab a bottle of water and get to that activity - you can even set a timer. Once you hit 15 minutes...your cravings are gone and you are EMPOWERED!

4. Are you Stressed?
Some cravings are STRESS related. Practice other ways to cope with stress - go for a walk , spiritual connections, a cozy fireplace, hot baths...all these stimulate neurochemicals that activate regions of the brain that stimulate pleasure associated with eating something sweet.

5. Break Old Habits.
One way to take control and make a change is to keep a journal - sure enjoy a big glass of water or cup of hot tea - but do so as you write down what you are craving...why you are craving it....give the craving a name and talk to it....find out what it wants....tell it why it is not welcome at this time....I know, sounds corny - but does help you gain insight and control over such thoughts and beliefs - then you have the power to change them.

By simply "doing" something different after dinner, you can overcome this habit. After dinner, brush your teeth, chew on a piece of gum, sip on some hot tea that has a naturally sweet taste (this one has been my lifesaver....a licorice based tea has a wonderfully sweet flavor).

Remove yourself from the environment where you normally had your sweet dessert or treat. If you normally eat it while watching TV - turn off the TV and distract yourself with a good book, play with your children, listen to some music, write in your journal....

You will be amazed at how powerful a few little lifestyle habits will give you the control you need to deal with and overcome those nagging cravings.

Fit Yummy Mummy Amazing Fat Loss Results

I’m a Big Fat Loser











"This is not a derogatory comment. This is a fact.... a great fact!!! I am a loser of fat in a big way!

I started the Fit Yummy Mummy lifestyle change on November 12th. So that makes 12 weeks now that I have been participating in this way of life.

I'll admit, I was a slight skeptic at first. Not because of Holly's program, but because of ME! I was starting this right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Was I crazy? And if you've read any of my bio, you know that I have tried several different ways to lose weight in the past and have succeeded at most initially, but then I seem to fall back into my old, safe, easy way of life habits.

Well, not any more! I have made a promise to myself, my husband, and both of my daughters that this is not going to be the case with me anymore. Besides, how can I not be motivated with the results I've had?

I know, I know... you all want to know the results. Hold on...I'm getting there. I just want to make a couple more points to prove to everyone that Holly really is a genius (in case you didn't know) and show that Fit Yummy Mummy really works even when you aren't doing it exactly the way you're supposed to and even when you're own body has a medical condition that is working against you on a daily basis.


On top of just my own bad habits and not being completely true to the nutrition plan during the holidays..... I don't mean just the days of... I mean the events were held at my house and all the leftovers were "left over" at my house. So, I'll admit, we feasted for several days, not just one.

About the medical condition... I have Hypothyroidism and have been on medication for this for about 5 years now. No big deal right? Wrong! This is actually a very common condition and probably several of the women on this site might even have it too.

Without going into all of the specifics of the condition, just know that your thyroid regulates several hormones in your body and has a lot to do with your metabolism... meaning whether it's working for or against you.

Well, to make a long story short, my MD decided to change the brand of my thyroid meds back in May. Not the dosage... just the brand. So, should have been no big deal. I do repeat labs about every 6 months to re-check and since my cholesterol was creeping up at my last lab, she was going to check that again too. So, I went back to follow-up last week. Her first question was "haven't you been tired?" Well, yes I have been, but that's common for me.

Then she weighed me.

She said to me that my thyroid was so out of whack she literally "could not believe that I had lost any weight", especially the amount that I had!

A normal TSH level is 0.5---5.5 and mine was....... 30!!!

My own thyroid has been working against me all this time!!! ARGHHH!!! So, she changed me back to my original prescription, but unfortunately, it does take about 6 weeks to fully get back into your system and do everything that it should be doing.

So, to prove my point that Holly's Fit Yummy Mummy Lifestyle System works...... here's what you've all been waiting for... My results!!!

Chest --- lost 2 inches yeah!

Waist --- lost 1.5 inches wow!

Hips --- lost 4 inches woo hoo!

Thigh --- 1 inch

Arm --- lost 1.25 inches yippee!

Total inches lost = 8.75!!!!!!!!!

Total pounds lost = 10!!!!!

I just wanna say yeah, yeah, yeah!!! I feel wonderful! This really has been a life changing process for me. I still have a very long road ahead of me, but I'm ready and willing to get there no matter what it takes.

By the way, I am going to join the Transformation Challenge... so watch out!!

Just imagine... if I lost 10 pounds and 8.75 inches of fat in 12 weeks with my own body working against me... I can't wait to see what will happen when my thyroid meds really start working.

How to Burn Belly Fat and get a Flat Tummy









"I want to get rid of the belly fat What exercise can I do that will help?"

This is by far the most frequently asked question I receive on a daily basis. After you read this article you will have the formula for success.

However, due to the fact that many women have difficulty letting go of what they think works - only a small percentage of you will actually take what I have to share and apply it. These are the women who will be proud to wear anything that respectfully displays their beautiful, flat tummy.

Sure! Including Ab exercises as part of your routine is beneficial for strength purposes, but the truth is - no amount of "ab exercises" will make the fat on your belly disappear and help you achieve flat, sexy abs.

Doing hundreds of crunches a day will do nothing to flatten your tummy. It is my hope that I will help you bust through the "Spot Reduction Myth" once and for all.

I have lost 3 pounds so far and I feel my belly isn't as big. My shirts are starting to fit slightly looser on the belly and I'm not so self conscious about my belly.

Prior to starting all of this I was at a bridal shower were everyone thought I was pregnant. After I told them no they asked how old my youngest was and when they found out she was over a year they really didn't have much else to say after that (kind of like, you had time to lose the belly so why don't you?). A lady actually told me it's a shame to have such a belly where the rest of me is slender and that I should really work on my belly.

So, all in all, I feel fantastic!

I haven't been doing FYM long enough to see complete photo changes but little changes are obviously apparent.

I think the feeling good inside is what keeps me going...not even the outside. I have felt so gross on the inside for so long.

The workouts are making me feel strong and energetic.
